I believe, too, that you do not hear how sweetly the little birds are singing; you walk gravely along as if you were going to school, while everything else out here in the wood is merry.''<br>

A avó vivia no meio da floresta, a meia légua de distância da vila, e assim que Chapeuzinho vermelho entro na floresta, o lobo encontrou com ela. Chapeuzinho vermelho não sabia que tipo de criatura malvada ele era, e não tinha nenhum medo dele.

:— ''Um bom quarto de légua adiante na floresta. A casa dela fica sob três grandes carvalhos e as castanheiras estão bem abaixo. Você certamente conhece,'' ela respondeu.
O lobo pensou consigo mesmo, "Que jovem criatura gentil! que boca cheia rechonchuda - era será melhor para comer cdo que a velha avó. Preciso agir com astúcia para capturar ambas." Então ele andou por um curto tempo ao lado de Chapeuzinho vermelho, e então disse, — ''Veja, Chapeuzinho vermelho, o quão belas aquelas flores ali são, porque você não dá uma olhada? Eu acredito também que você não ouviu o quão doce os pássaros estão cantando. Você anda seriamente como se estivesse indo à escola, enquanto tuda a sua volta na floresta é agradável.''

:— ''Little Red-Cap raised her eyes, and when she saw the sunbeams dancing here and there through the trees, and pretty flowers growing everywhere, she thought, "Suppose I take grandmother a fresh nosegay; that would please her too. It is so early in the day that I shall still get there in good time;" and so she ran from the path into the wood to look for flowers. And whenever she had picked one, she fancied that she saw a still prettier one farther on, and ran after it, and so got deeper and deeper into the wood.<br>
Meanwhile the wolf ran straight to the grandmother's house and knocked at the door.<br>

Little Red-Cap, however, had been running about picking flowers, and when she had gathered so many that she could carry no more, she remembered her grandmother, and set out on the way to her.<br>

Chapeuzinho vermelho ergueu seus olhos, e quando viu os raios de sol dançando ali e acolá entre as árvores e as belas flores crescendo em todo canto, pensou, "Acho que devo levar um ramalhete para minha avó, isto irá agradá-la também. Ainda é tão cedo que devo chegar lá em um bom tempo." E então ela correu do caminho para dentro da floresta para olhar as flores. E toda hora que pegava uma, via outra que era ainda mais bonita à distância e, após correr atrás, ia mais e mais adentro da floresta.
Enquanto isso o lobo correi diretamente para a casa da avó e bateu na porta.

:— ''Chapeuzinho vermelho'', o lobo respondeu, ''Ela está trazendo bolo e vinho. Abra a porta.''
:— ''Levante o trinco'', ela gritou lá de dentro, ''Estou muito fraca e não posso levantar.''
O lobo levantou o trinco, a porta ficou aberta e sem dizer nenhuma palavra foi direto para a cama da avó e a devorou. Então ele colocou as roupas dela, colocou um capuz dela, deitou na cama e fechou as cortinas.
Chapeuzinho, entretanto, estava correndo e pegando flores, e quando viu que tinha colhido tantas que ela não podia carregar mais, lembrou-se de sua avó e foi direto para ela.

She was surprised to find the cottage-door standing open, and when she went into the room, she had such a strange feeling that she said to herself, "Oh dear! how uneasy I feel to-day, and at other times I like being with grandmother so much." She called out, "Good morning," but received no answer; so she went to the bed and drew back the curtains. There lay her grandmother with her cap pulled far over her face, and looking very strange.<br>
